Gold Star

Jump to navigationJump to searchFor a brief period during mid-2003, if you were browsing MetaFilter you might have seen a User Name (the name labeling a post) with a gold star preceding it. The gold star was given out by Matt Haughey at his sole discretion. However, MattHaughey changed his mind about gold stars in June 2003 and removed them from the website.
Gold Stars given out to date
- Stan Chin got a gold star for this graphic (which was a 'metafilter timeout corner'). The song 88 Lines About 44 Mefites by cortex contains more history of Stan Chin's star.
- Shadowkeeper got a gold star for this graphic (which congratulated MiguelCardoso on his 100th MetaTalk post).
- For a brief period the three winners of the December 2006 Best Post contest (see Contests) had gold stars next to their names in MetaTalk only, but this again caused confusion and was later removed.
- Moderator Jessamyn got a gold star in recognition of her "five years as an employee." It was removed later that year when "(staff)" badges were added to bylines of comments from official admins/moderators.
