The original and definitive comment on pancakes is considered to be aaron's classic. Canonically a way of calling out a Linkless Post, the usage has grown to include:
- links invented solely for the subject of discussion
- blatant Trolls, Double Posts, and other Dead Threads.
Pancakes are a MetaFilter in-joke. Occasionally you may see an animated gif of a rabbit jumping about with a pancake on its head. The rabbit is called Oolong and has since sadly passed away, although you can see the origin of the in-joke here. (Note: That thread was posted the day before 9/11.)
