Death by a Thousand Comments
From Mefi Wiki

Threads on MetaFilter that contain more than a few hundred comments are usually considered overly long. In certain rare cases, an FPP about a contentious issue or a thread rife with trolling will cause a thread to exceed 1000 comments -- thus running the thread into the ground.
Some notable examples
- Political Science & Promiscuity User Peeping_Thomist rails against contraception, abortion, "the modern nation-state" and masturbation, among other things.
1194 comments were made before the thread was mercifully aborted.
- The infamous Mushroom Thread. 1027 comments of a fungal nature. See: Mushrooms.
MeTa Examples
- MeFi and antisemitism. 1723 comments.
