MetaFilter's site and server can always use upgrades of hardware, software, and bandwidth, as well as more stable funding for continued support of its small but high-skilled moderation and backend team! If you'd like to chip in, you can donate to Metafilter. |

A comment is a response to a post. The post and the following comments together form a thread. MetaFilter comments are ordered chronologically, not threaded; this is a design choice and it's considered a feature, not a bug.
Comments may be removed by the mods. How often this happens and for which reasons, depends on where the comments get posted; the rules differ between the different sections of MetaFilter. Removal of comments will generally be explained in a mod note.
- On the blue, comments are supposed to be more or less on topic and may get deleted if they are a derail, full of GRAR or just noise. Removal of comments will generally be explained in a mod note.
- On the green, commenters are meant to reply to the poster of the question, not get into debates with each other, and chat is discouraged. Comments may be removed silently if they do not answer the question.
- On the grey, comments rarely get removed unless they are very fighty.
