The topic of feminism comes up from time to time on Metafilter. Usually there are misconceptions about it. This page attempts to correct those misunderstands and give a very brief (under five minutes) introduction on the subject. Feminism is about equality for men and women.

It views society as being patriarchal, i.e. more geared towards favoring men than women.

Because of this women are often viewed as less than men, their opinions and thoughts are not taken seriously and in the most extreme cases, women are nothing more than property of men.
