Netherlands, New Zealand and Thailand completed on DV section. My Thai not really adequate for the latter but have linked to one site, at least. Penguin pie (talk) 22:44, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Continued to work through the DV section, have checked through to the end of Mexico. If anybody happens by here with better Spanish than me, please feel free to check over the Mexico section - thanks. Penguin pie (talk) 22:55, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

In response to tangerine's Meta, I've started updating the Domestic Violence section. I've checked/updated the US section and will aim to keep chipping away at the rest. Penguin pie (talk) 23:07, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

I gave a shout-out in this post for anyone who could help expand the Domestic Violence section (which was limited to the UK and US hotlines at the time I posted.) Thanks to Little Dawn for contributing; between the links the two of us have added it's looking in better shape. I've changed the title of the section to "Domestic Abuse," to reflect that there are other forms of domestic abuse than just physical violence. --Penguin pie (talk) 04:20, 10 July 2015 (PDT)

Changing the title breaks the link to the Domestic Violence section... I think it could be good to change it back so past links also work... Little Dawn (talk) 07:10, 10 July 2015 (PDT)

Ah good call, I didn't realise that; I'm pretty new to wiki editing - would you be able to do it just to make sure I don't bork it? Thanks for catching --Penguin pie (talk) 08:43, 10 July 2015 (PDT)

I'm also relatively new to wiki editing, and I'm not sure about how to redirect links, but I agree that the distinction between Abuse and Violence is an important one for outreach purposes - I also think more information is a good solution for things like this, and maybe the ThereIsHelp page would benefit from a brief introduction, similar to the Get a lawyer page, but tailored to how this page works. I've been thinking on this for a bit, and I don't think it is terrible to have broken the section title link, because it still goes to the main ThereIsHelp page. I think "Domestic Violence and Abuse" could be a more inclusive section title. Little Dawn (talk) 09:48, 10 July 2015 (PDT)

I'm concerned that we need more space between the larger sections. (Depression / Alcoholism, etc.) It seems too crunched / difficult to read if a person scrolls down. Any suggestions?

Saveyoursanity, the Depression Center link doesn't allow you to search by practitioner or facility. Their site is broken. We should revisit the link if and when they fix it. The apathy link will most likely be added soon need to scan the answers to confirm the advice given is constructive. Thank you! --Jon 20:17, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Just added a section on alcohol. Started out as a broader "Alcohol and substance" section, but they are sort of different in that resources and strategies and helping organizations are different.

Also made an effort to select from mostly anon threads on the topic.

Definitely makes sense to avoid "link dump"-ism in structuring this page. Rather than trying to find resources for solving every problem in the world, maybe with Jessamyn's help we can identify major categories that could be of use here, things that come up a lot in Ask. Off the top of my head, in addition to

  • crisis/suicide
  • depression
  • alcohol

there could be

  • substance (other than alcohol) abuse
  • abuse (physical, verbal, sexual)
  • sexual assault, domestic violence
  • mental illness (bipolar, 'i feel crazy', psychosis etc)

At Miko's suggestion, I revamped the page slightly so that it is less depression-focused. Suicide hotlines and emergency resources are now at the top of the page and will remain there, so those who come to the page in crisis won't have far to look to find what they need.

All information about Depression and Therapists has been moved into their own sections. As we add new subsections (for various types of abuse, etc.,) they'll be easier to manage.

Per the mods, they're unsure how Mefite contact names and emails should be organized/displayed yet. There are privacy issues at play here, and wiki pages are indexed by search engines, meaning if someone changes their mind, their information will still be available/cached online. In addition, revisions to the wiki are not permanently deleted. I suggest we hold off asking people to add names to the wiki until the mods establish an approved system.

Jon moved these two to the "Helpful Books and Articles" section of the article. —RichardP (talk) 23:10, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

As the OP of the How do I beat this persistent apathy? thread, I recommend it be shelved under depression. Could Depression Center be listed with MoodGym, maybe? --Saveyoursanity 14:59, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

I was about to add an entry under 'India' linking to the suicide.org page for it, but since an 'International' link is already present in 'Links to suicide helplines', wouldn't that be a little redundant? Something similar currently exists under the Canada tab.
